Poetry and Art in my opinion were meant to exist together. There is something about how poetry paints images with it's words and how art speaks through it's visuals that makes the two of them together a perfect marriage.
“Winter Solstice Chant” is a beautiful poem by Annie Finch that really resonated with me this season and filtered into my painting collection this winter.
Winter Solstice Chant
BY ANNIE FINCH
Vines, leaves, roots of darkness, growing,
now you are uncurled and cover our eyes
with the edge of winter sky
leaning over us in icy stars.
Vines, leaves, roots of darkness, growing,
come with your seasons, your fullness, your end.
I often find reading poetry to be very inspiring and if I get stuck on a painting I will sometimes take a break and sit and read Robert Frost or Mary Oliver to get my creative rhythm moving again. Now, if only I was a poet! I guess you can't have it all...haha
Another phenomenal way to get your creative juices flowing again is The Jealous Curator's book "Creative Block" by Danielle Krysa. I bought it about a year ago and it has a wonderful collection of projects to get your mind back on the JOY of creating.
Check it out HERE, you won't be dissappointed.
